Geppino Afeltra’s path is a one way street to the entertainment world. Between 1988 and 1993 Afeltra puts his signature to several television programmes, starting with “Mixitalia” (RAIDUE), a show about the success of 80s dance music. His name appears on major televised events associated primarily with music, such as “Una Estate italiana” on RAIUNO (1990 to 1993) broadcast from the Roman Theatre of Benevento, a prime-time programme that discusses the television season to come and features showmen like Pippo Baudo, Lino Banfi, Oreste Lionello and the participation of international stars. He follows this with “Mediterraneo e dintorni” on RAIDUE (1991-1992), a programme that launches a great dialogue between culture, region and music in our country.Afeltra refines his natural propensity for communication. Through his ability to organize successful events and involve the media, proper promotional strategies, he becomes a producer.
Now a genuine expert in both public and private management communications and human resources, his theatrical and television productions will be as successful as his recording ones. With “Il Premio degli Italiani nel mondo” (RAIUNO) 2002, 2003, 2004 from the Terrazza del Bollettino Vittoriano in Rome, Afeltra is able to represent the industry’s great personalities in the fields of entertainment and culture, famous people such as Alberto Sordi, Andrea Bocelli, Sofia Loren, Giancarlo Giannini and many others. Following this initiative, Afeltra puts on many conferences including the “Convegno internazionale dei Missionari Italiani nel mondo”, “Convegno internazionale degli Artisti italiani nel mondo” and the “Convegno internazionale dei ricercatori Italiani nel mondo”.
Major events starring Gigi D’Alessio (Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples in 2000 on RAIUNO on CANALE 5 in 2005) have achieved great audience success. These concerts, featuring the partecipation of many international guests, have been attended by over 250,000 spectators each year. Among other television productions we shouldn’t forget “Mare Latino” on RAIUNO , a tv show that promotes the cultural and touristic landscapes of our beautiful country and offers advice and collaboration to National and International festivals such as Giffoni Film Festival.
In addition to his television-related activity he begins a road-tour related one. In 1991 Geppino starts a collaboration with Eugenio Bennato, with who he launches the movement Taranta Power, taking Joy Salinas, Mietta, Sabrina Salerno, Enzo Avitabile, Giuni Russo, Neri per caso, the first production companies with the same Bennato, Alan Sorrenti and Tony Esposito on tour around the world.
Needless to say, Geppino Afeltra’s name is inextricably linked to Gigi D’Alessio between 1998 and 2007. Forward-looking Afeltra went against and beyond negative predictions, D’Alessio was a gamble that few believed in, a local phenomenon that could never rise to national prominence under the defeatists. They were the same people who had to change their minds when confronted with the results of this artistic project: the sale of over two million copies of records. An infinite number of successes, from San Remo to international tours, bond Afeltra to Gigi D’Alessio, including the 2003 radio and television broadcast of his concert in Melbourne (Australia) and a special show for RAIUNO about Gigi D’Alessio’s world tour of that year, giving a huge boost to sales of his album “Uno come te”. Amongst his other projects are: Ladri di Biciclette, Anna Tatangelo,Gigi Finizio, Pquadro, Eugenio Bennato, one of the protagonists of the Sanremo Festival 2008 with “Grande Sud”.
In 2007 he produces the event, “Amedeo Minghi: my 40 years with you” to celebrate his 40-year career at the Auditorium of the Reconciliation of Rome, accompanied by the orchestra The Symphony and with many guests such as Lino Banfi and Mietta, the prima ballerina star Lara and the great tenor Fabio Andreotti, the result of which will be an album and a special for RaiUno. A further great musical event produced by Geppino in September 2007 is the concert “Note di Pace” by Maestro Ennio Morricone in tribute to the victims of the tragedy of September 11th 2001 in N.Y.C, a television production made for RaiUno from Piazza San Marco in Venice with resulting DVD and CD.
As a manager and talent scout, Afeltra’s activity has incorporated the development of strategic communication projects between actors and showmen of cinema and television, including Biagio Izzo.
In a bleak television outlook as far as music is concerned, Afeltra decides to create some music magazines for RAIUNO. We are talking about “Ritratti d’autore” (2004 on RAIUNO) and especially the programme “Music@”, hosted by Savino Zaba, who put the spotlight on major National artists by showing their video clips. These are programmes whose overriding focus is the protection of the author and his professional role in the world of music and television, with particular emphasis on Italian music.
As a director and artistic advisor of various festivals Afeltra has played a prestigious and important role that perfectly frames his contribution to Italian discography. From 2003 to 2007 SIAE accepts Afeltra among the directors of this historical society for the protection of authors and publishers, especially for his study on the age-old question of copyright and more generally about the ability and creativity of authors, where Afeltra gives an important contribution as befitting his expertise.
The field of communications is and will always remain Geppino Afeltra’s focus; he is a producer and likes to call himself a real manager. In his extensive and varied professional activities we can say with certainty that Afeltra focuses on marketing and technical economy. In December 2007, President Giorgio Napolitano awarded Giuseppe Afeltra the title of Knight of the Republic and in the same month and year, he became part of the National Association of Journalists.
Since 2009, he is the Vice President of F.I.P.I. (Federazione Italiana Proprietà Intellettuale) affiliated with CAPI European Federation Brussels and Federmusica.
